And those who disbelieve and deny Our signs - those will be companions of the Fire; they will abide therein eternally."

O Children of Israel, remember My favor which I have bestowed upon you and fulfill My covenant [upon you] that I will fulfill your covenant [from Me], and be afraid of [only] Me.

Allah now mentions the contrast..Quran is full of comparisons..usually the contrast is between iman and kufr
but here its different..here contrast is between those who FOLLOW guidance and those who disbelieve..this shows us that merely belief without action is not good enough
Now Allah is telling us through bani israel that i DID favour you,because we ask in surah fatiha that siraatalazeena anamta ilaiyhhim,we think its only directed to bani israel but it is actually directed to us
Abu zar warned Muawiya against hording gold and he said it was revealed to ahle kitab not to us,then he said but it was an ibrat for US..so it shows these are examples for us to follow,not mere stories
hazrat Musa AS is mentioned the most in Quran because his ummah is closest to our ummah
What is Allahs favour on us? HE made us the last and the best ummah,is that a small favour?when we remember a gift we appreciate it more..it increases our gratitude
If you fulfill my promise I will fulfill my promise to you? Allahs promise in dunya was that if they established torat they would eat from above and below them,in other words they would get everything in dunya,and they will not fear
Aren't we also afraid as an ummah?Allah has given us the solution
Allah also tells us that softening of hearts will occur by remembering Allahs favours,this is what we also have to remember as daees,we shouldn't scare people away but should remind them of Allahs favours
The first thing Allah is asking us to believe in IS the MESSENGER..believe in what we have sent down..some people have misinterpreted an ayah in the Quran which says whoever believes in Allah,last day and do good deeds ,they will have no fear..but some people tore the Quran in pieces and only followed that ayah and say that we don't need to follow the messenger,anyone can go to jannah,do we believe in some part of the book and deny the rest?if we dont believe in the messenger then NOTHING else counts..we believe in all the messengers,there is NOTHING short of a 100 percent when it concerns iman
It confirms what they already had because the zikr of the prophet saww was also made in their books..how could you be the first to disbelieve then?how could they be the first when the Quraish were the first to deny? they are the first because they knew YET they disbelieved so they were the worst..the jews were already familiriased with the concept of prophets
now Allah exposes their secret agenda, DONT SELL OUT..it means dont reject it although you know its the truth..if they followed islam they would have lost their special status..everybody would have become equal..thats why Allah warns them
there will be people who will interpret Allahs book such that its pleasing to people and to fulfill a certain agenda..Allah warns them have taqwa ONLY and ONLY of me
there are people from among liberals who are misinterpreting the quran to please the nonmuslims,but there is also the other extreme who are angry at the state of ummah and they are also using the quran to justify their anger..don't come to this book with personal motives because the quran can easily be misquoted
if the quran is presented genuinely there IS nothing to be embarassed of or nothing controversial,the quran is beautiful and appeals to fitrah
we have not yet done our job of explaining the book to the world
Now Allah gives them the cure..pray namaz and give zakat..it will cure you of your disease
Allah says make rukoo with the raakieen..those people used to do sajdah first and rukoo later with reversed sequence..now Allah tells them to make rukoo WITH the muslims..in the right order..when these ayahs were revealed the jews were still not called a separate nation..they were still considered a part of muslims because Allah was giving them a chance as though they are just a deviated part of the ummah..they are given another chance
we have separated religion from ethics..some people are religious but not ethical and some are ethical but not religious..Allah says why dont you follow what you say?
Aqal in arabic literally means to tie..iqaal was what they used to tie a camel..because when you have aqal you have control and restraint..if you dont have control you dont have aqal even if you had a phd..so aqal is about self control..they do read the book but they dont have aqal because it doesnt teach them control
